Bissau, 01 Jul 26 (ANG) - The President of the Republic of The Gambia, H.E Adama Barrow, through the Ministry of Interior, under the leadership of Hon. Abdoulie Sanyang, officially launched the National Digital Identity Management System (GAM ID) at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre, on wednesday, 01th July 2026.
The landmark digital identity inauguration ceremony
pioneered through a public-private partnership with Margins ID Group, was
graced by Cabinet Ministers, Senior Government Officials, Security Service
Chiefs, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Development Partners, and
representatives of public and private institutions.
Delivering his opening remarks, the Director General
of the Gambia Information and Communication Technology Agency (GICTA),
Professor Abdou Karim Jallow, described the National Digital Identity System
project as a transformative milestone in the country's digital governance
agenda. He noted that the initiative will establish a robust and integrated
national database, improve public service delivery, strengthen identity
management, and enhance efficiency, transparency, and good governance across
government institutions.
The Chief Executive Officer of Margins ID Group, Mr.
Moses Baiden Jr., emphasized the importance of the public-private partnership
in advancing The Gambia's digital transformation. He reaffirmed the company's
commitment to supporting the government in establishing a secure, sovereign,
and reliable digital identity infrastructure that provides real-time access to
trusted identity services while safeguarding citizens' data.
In his keynote address, the President of the Republic
of The Gambia, His Excellency Adama Barrow, expressed confidence in the
National Digital Identity System, describing it as a major step towards
strengthening national identification and improving access to government
services. He underscored the importance of a secure, reliable, and inclusive
identity system in promoting socio-economic development and effective public
administration.
President Barrow further reaffirmed his government's
commitment to ensuring that every Gambian has a unique and secure digital
identity, noting that the initiative will enhance access to public services,
strengthen national planning, and support the country's broader digital
transformation agenda.
The Gambia Immigration Department, represented at the
launching ceremony by Director General Ebrima Mboob, Core Command and Senior
Management, welcomes the successful launch of the National Digital Identity
System , a national development drive that directly impacts the GID’s Strategic
Plan. We reaffirm our commitment to
supporting the government's digital transformation efforts through the
provision of secure, efficient, and citizen-centred legal identity and documentation
